Paying for Pandora to Discover Music on Spotify

Pandora-vs-spotify

I am now paying customer for both Pandora and Spotify. If you're not familiar with either (in which case you should get plugged into the Matrix), you can think of Pandora as a radio station that learns and plays the music you like. You can think of Spotify as a pay-for-access to most any music you want. That's right, most. They have millions of tracks, but more than once have a I found it to come up short on some old jams that I was looking for. But here's the deal, I'm still paying for both...why?

Sometimes I want to listen to something particular. Whether I have it or not, I can quickly go to Spotify and search for that artist and start listening away. Sweet! Then of course make fun soundtracks; which I only do at night late after a beer (or 2).
BUT sometimes I want to find something new. This is where Spotify falls short.
Pandora has music disovery nailed down to a science. I tell Pandora I like Band of Horses. So it plays a BOH song then starts serving up other similar artists and tracks. I tell Pandora whether I like it not and it remembers. This type of "discovery" does not happen easily in Spotify.
So here's where I find myself...
I'm paying for Pandora so that I can discover music on Spotify. Oh well...tis the reality of online software these days!

Need to Think? Back Away from the Computer!

I think I've started new tradition. This past Monday, I spent most of my day outside. I was working, but I didn't have a computer. Just a pad and pen, my brain, and iced coffee. No technology! Okay, I lied, I had my iPhone. But I didn't have my computer. I just thought about MemberHub and planned. I asked tough questions, reflected on the past and looked to the future.

It was really one of the most productive days I've had in a while. And at the same time, it was relaxing. I came back with many notes, new thoughts and I felt refreshed!

I'm going to do this once a month. And I'm going to do it the exact same way. My morning at Fred Fletcher Park and my afternoon downtown on Fayetteville Street man.

You should try it too if your work and life permit it. Tell your boss (or spouse) that you'll be more productive than you would be staring at the computer screen all day!
